Wang Yi holds talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi
On April 23 2025 Wang Yi member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that Iran is China's comprehensive strategic partner in the Middle East. China-Iran friendship has withstood the test of international vicissitudes, and developing China-Iran relations is a common strategic choice of both sides. In recent years, China and Iran have worked together in times of difficulty and helped each other, deepened political mutual trust in mutual support, tightened interest ties in pragmatic cooperation, and united and cooperated in the fight against unilateral bullying. The strategic quality of China-Iran relations has become more prominent.
Wang Yi pointed out that the world today is full of chaos. The United States has lost the support of the people by abusing tariffs and has isolated itself from the international community. The international community needs to unite more than ever to uphold multilateralism and safeguard the basic norms of international relations. China is willing to work with Iran to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continuously consolidate friendly cooperation in various fields, deepen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, jointly promote the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS mechanism to play a greater role, and make more efforts to safeguard the common interests of the two countries and promote regional and world peace and stability.
Araghchi said that Iran attaches great importance to developing relations with China, adheres to the one-China principle, and supports China in safeguarding its core interests. The Iran-China comprehensive strategic partnership is based on mutual trust and is at its best in history. The friendship between the two countries has a solid foundation and will not be affected by other factors. In the face of the United States' abuse of tariffs and bullying, Iran will continue to firmly support China, jointly oppose unilateralism and hegemonism, and jointly safeguard multilateralism. Iran supports China's work as the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with China, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen communication and coordination in multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations and BRICS, and promote the in-depth development of Iran-China relations.
The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the latest progress of the Iranian nuclear issue. Wang Yi stressed that China has always been committed to the political and diplomatic solution of the Iranian nuclear issue and opposes resorting to force and illegal unilateral sanctions. China appreciates Iran's commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, respects Iran's right to peacefully use nuclear energy, and supports Iran in conducting dialogue with all parties including the United States to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests through consultation and negotiation, which will help maintain the international nuclear non-proliferation system and promote regional peace and stability. Araghchi appreciated the important and positive role played by China in promoting the political and diplomatic solution of the Iranian nuclear issue and is willing to maintain close communication and coordination with China on this.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional issues such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Syria, Yemen and the Red Sea situation.
